Services provided

1.  Courses at AGS, taught in English

Several options, which can be combined:

Option 1 – Courses from the AGS catalog: Study abroad students may take existing AGS courses, specializing in international relations and related subjects.

These courses are accredited in the US as graduate courses, but can admit undergraduate students and be adapted to meet undergraduate requirements.

Topics include, among others: Conflict resolution, NGO Management, Environmental Politics, Gender issues, International Law, Geopolitics, and area studies: Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East.

Option 2 – Tailored dedicated courses: Courses designed in coordination with the partner institution.

Subjects are based on the partner institution’s needs, including topics within AGS’s original field of expertise in International Relations (such as “French and/or European history, culture, and politics”) as well as subjects less closely related to IR, using AGS’s network of Paris-based academics and professionals.

Option 3 – Hosting partner institution’s courses: in combination with the options above, AGS may host courses taught by the partner institution’s faculty.

2.   French language courses

Programs may include French language courses taught in the same building by the world-renowned Alliance Française Paris-Ile de France. Various course options are available, from 2 to 9 hours per week.

Students are placed in the classes best suited to their individual level, which is assessed upon arrival.

3.  Class excursions and extra-curricular activities

Excursions: Programs may include embedded site visits related to the material studied in class (e.g. UNESCO headquarters, embassies, Roman ruins in Paris) and extra-curricular outings to explore off-the-beaten-path Paris.

Travel: AGS has designed travel experiences to nearby locations such as Brussels, Strasbourg, or London, combining cultural tourism with the visit of the EU institutions or international organizations studied in class.

School events: AGS regularly hosts guest talks, wine and cheese evenings, and other events enhancing the students’ academic, cultural and social experience.

4.  Logistical support and facilities

  • Organizational support prior to arrival

  • Pick-up from and ride to the airport at the start and at the end of the program

  • Orientation session: including academic, cultural and safety information session, and Paris tour

  • Daily administrative, academic and logistical support

  • 24/7 emergency contact

  • Use of AGS’s newly renovated facilities, located in the heart of Paris, including classrooms, a computer lab, a study room/library, a student lounge, and a balcony with a panoramic view of Paris.

Housing

Housing is organized by AGS in partnership with Atome Homestay.

Homestay is the best way to experience French culture and life-style. Students have an individual room in a French family’s apartment or house in Paris, and participate in the family’s daily life.

Two boarding options: Breakfast everyday and one dinner per week, or breakfast and dinner everyday.
