Professor Elizabeth Milovidov, who teaches the International Public Law course at AGS, was invited by the US Department of State's Africa Regional Services to give a series of presentations at the United States Embassy in Paris on February 21st and February 28th. The Africa Regional Services are a Paris-based division of the African Affairs Bureau of Public Diplomacy in Washington, supporting the cultural and diplomatic activities of US embassies in Africa. Dr Milovidov's talks were attended via video conference by students and professionals from diverse backgrounds in Banjul in The Gambia, Niamey in Niger, Bangui in Central African Republic, and Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo. The theme of both talks was the role of peaceful protest in societal change, which was followed for each talk by a presentation on a different theme: women as leaders in the home and children in the digital environment (Feb. 21), and the contributions of African American women to entrepreneurial innovations (Feb. 28). One of the Master's candidates at AGS, Chloe Bingham, who is currently interning at the US Embassy in Paris, had the opportunity to participate in both sessions. She assisted Dr Milovidov during the presentations, passing her questions to ask the audience or comments that she might be able to elaborate on. She says: "Dr Milovidov essentially laid out the background for the participants, answered questions when they arose (particularly regarding international law), and guided them a bit, but was keen on giving the students tools they needed and encouraging them to use them. These were sessions for the participants. Dr. Milovidov set the stage and then we sat back and watched international relations at work." Elizabeth Milovidov earned her Ph.D. in International Relations and Diplomacy from AGS in 2007. She has more than 20 years of experience working as an attorney, a corporate counsel and a professor of child rights and international law. She now works as a consultant for the European Commission and various other organizations to advance children's rights law and increase awareness on Internet safety and protection. |

Chrissie Graham USA The people that I met at AGS will remain my friends forever, despite the fact that they are now all over the world. I know each one of my professors personally and keep in touch with them. I don't think that I would ever have been as involved in my grad school if I had gone to a larger institution. |
